The Story Behind BioDrip: Building a Science-Backed Hydration Formula

The Story Behind BioDrip: Building a Science-Backed Hydration Formula

From the founder (the SipScientist)

My whole purpose behind formulating BioDrip was to come up with one of the most robustly formulated electrolyte supplements on the market. I wanted something that had a closer makeup to what is being lost in sweat. I think if you are going to make a "science-backed" hydration formula, then you should probably start with the baseline of looking at what comes out in sweat and go from there. These products that have minimal or zero sodium, potassium, magnesium, or chloride should be ashamed to call themselves an electrolyte formula. The only exception here is if it has been tailored for people who are suffering from CVD, kidney disease, etc. medical conditions where people have to monitor their intakes of these electrolytes but most of the time they're just underdosed, money-grabbing products.

I wanted to create a formula that would also fit my personal preferences regarding what I avoid and look for in my diet/supplement regiment. This meant it needed to be naturally sweetened, have no dyes or artificial coloring, have zero or minimal calories, have no proprietary blends, and have zero unpronounceable ingredients.

My Parameters (zero exceptions)

  • Exceptionally dosed electrolyte blend
  • Address other minerals lost in sweat
  • Naturally sweetened, no dyes or colors
  • No filler, fluff, anything in-between

How I came up with the BioDrip ratio

When we say we are a science-backed formula, we actually mean it. I dove into multiple different studies from PubMed and a handful of other trusted sources analyzing sweat compositions of their test subjects. Then I compiled those ranges of numbers together from each study to create my own average of electrolytes and minerals lost. You can find those numbers here. Once I had these numbers, I looked at the recommended daily intake for each of these electrolytes and minerals to make sure we could provide a good stepping stone towards hitting those RDIs. Since this is supplementing what is being lost in a bout of sweating, it should be covering anywhere from 15% to 40% (electrolyte and mineral dependent) of your daily intake. After I came up with my totally correct doses of the ingredients (this is another one of those jokes), I reached out to my manufacturer and told them exactly what I wanted in BioDrip, how I wanted it sweetened, the flavor I was going for, and the rest is history.

*My chloride exception* - If your electrolyte formula does not contain chloride you should look elsewhere for a new hydration supplement.

Chloride is more than likely the most lost electrolyte in sweat. Depending on the individual, workout, how they sweat, etc... An individual can lose up to 3,000 mg, or 3 grams, of chloride from sweating. Due to chloride not being an active ingredient in BioDrip, it is not listed on the nutrition facts panel. However, that does not mean it is not our most potent electrolyte in the formula. Because we use sodium chloride and potassium chloride in our formula, your chloride needs are more than covered from these two ingredients. BioDrip will provide 56-76% of your daily chloride intake in one serving. I give the range, as some sources say 2.3 grams of chloride is the RDI, while others say 3.1 grams is the RDI.

BioDrip was born from a mission to create one of the most complete, science-backed electrolyte supplements on the market. Built around real sweat composition data, BioDrip is formulated to replenish what your body truly loses - not padded with fillers, dyes, or gimmicks. With an emphasis on natural sweeteners, transparent labeling, and properly dosed electrolytes like sodium, potassium, magnesium, and chloride, BioDrip reflects a commitment to quality, performance, and authenticity. It’s hydration done right, from research to reality.
